‘Southern Arena will be one of the best in the Sub-region’ – Turkish Engineer

Muhammed Aksoy, the chief engineer constructing the country’s first indigenous football stadium, the Southern Arena Stadium, has disclosed to this medium that, when completed the six thousand (6000) capacity stadium will be among the best in the sub-region in terms of facilities. He made this disclosure on Sunday, 17th July 2022, during an interview with pressmen at the construction site in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.

The Southern Arena Stadium project is an initiative of business guru, philanthropist, and executive chairman for Premier League Club Bo Rangers, Babadi Kamara. The project which started six months ago is almost in the completion stage, and engineer  Muhammed Aksoy has assured of a great footballing facility when the construction is completed.

“I’ve undertaken lots of stadium building projects in West Africa including Congo, Senegal, and a whole lot more, but I see the Southern Arena among them in terms of facilities. This stadium may not be the same in capacity as compared to those, but the standards are the same or even more modernized,” he informed.

The six thousand-capacity stadia have two opposing cover stands, open stands from another two ends, and four giant floodlights superintended by an 800KVA generator that will supply power to these lights if matches are to play at night, two scoreboard screens from each end on the open stands, and an electronics led advertising board that would give the stadium a digitalized modern flavor.

“We’re working round the clock to finish this project as early as possible. All of the facilities mentioned are of international standard, accepted by FIFA and CAF”, he noted.

He continued; “We are now putting final touches on key areas we started on and as you all can see, intense work is in progress.”

The Turkish also informed that due to the excessive rains, they have not been able to fix the turf yet, but assured to have it fixed as soon as the rains lessen.
