Chef d’ Mission okays with Salone’s Competitors

Sierra Leone’s head of delegation at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Unisa Deen Kargbo, has intimated team Sierra Leone’s readiness ahead of the 22nd  Commonwealth Games that will be officially opened today at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Mr. Unisa Deen Kargbo informed that the country’s delegation had arrived at the games village a week ago, and had undergone all necessary protocols that now makes them ready for competition after Thursday’s opening ceremony.
“We have gone through all necessary protocols with regards to this year’s edition of the Commonwealth games. The athletes are all excited and are looking forward to competing against other athletes from other nations”, he informed.
“Opening Ceremony is one of the events athletes and officials look forward to, and I’m sure Sierra Leoneans back home are also looking to it”, he continued.

   Sierra Leone Athletes in Birmingham 

Sierra Leone has never won medals in the previous editions of the Commonwealth Games but the Chef D’ Mission is optimistic that the country’s fortunes in the games will change this time. “At the Gold Coast Games in Australia in 2018, Sierra Leone athletes didn’t win medals but we had those who went to the quarterfinals; the Volleyball and Basketball teams. I am optimistic that our athletes will put on a good showing that will enable them win laurels”, he said.
In the area of outfit to be worn by athletes and officials during today’s opening ceremony, Mr. Unisa Deen Kargbo informed that Sierra Leone will be putting on two colourful gears that will depict the country’s fashion culture identifying the Labrum wear which is manufactured by Sierra Leonean designer Foday Dumbuya through the support of Idrissa Elba.
“We have put all modalities in place to ensure our athletes and officials look as colourful as possible, and our flag carrier this year is Hafsatu Kamara, an experience athlete who has represented Sierra Leone in different sporting events including the 2018 Games in the Gold Coast, the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and a whole lot more”, he ended.
